biografische gegevens van di-rect Di-rect is een Nederlandse popgroep uit Den Haag. De groep wordt bij elkaar gebracht door Dick Westland, die spelende leeftijdsgenoten voor zijn zoon Jamie zocht, en sessiemuzikant Dennis van Hoorn. Zo ontstaat een band van vier jongens in leeftijd varierend van 17 tot 21 jaar: TIM AKKERMAN: zang, gitaar SPIKE VAN ZOEST: gitaar .. echte naam: frans van zoest BAS VAN WAGENINGEN: bas JAMIE WESTLAND: drums De eerste single van Di-rect, het door Akkerman geschreven "Just the way I do", wordt door Radio-3 DJ Rob Stenders gedraaid en wordt prompt een hit. Het debuutalbum van de groep "Discover" verkoopt meer dan 40.000 exemplaren, wat goed genoeg is voor goud, en ook live doen de jongens het uitstekend: binnen korte tijd zijn ze te zien op Lowlands, Pinkpop en Parkpop.
