biografische gegevens van kansas KANSAS is een uit Topeka (USA) afkomstige symfonische (hard)rock-groep. De groep komt onder contract te staan bij DON KIRSHNER en in 1974 vinden we de volgende bezetting op de debuut-lp: STEVE WALSH: zang, keyboards KENNY LIVGREN: gitaar RICHARD WILLIAMS: gitaar ROBBY STEINHARDT: viool, zang DAVE HOPE: bas PHIL EHART: drums Kansas timmert behoorlijk aan de weg. De populariteit van de groep kent rond 1977 een hoogtepunt maar dan blijkt toch wel dat Walsh en Livgren ieder een eigen kant op willen met de muziek: Livgren wil meer religieuze invloeden, terwijl Walsh juist een stevigere rock wil. Beide heren maken in deze periode een solo-lp, maar Kansas zit in een impasse. In 1981 verlaat Steve Walsh Kansas en richt zijn eigen groep Streets op. De nieuwe zanger heet JOHN ELEFANTE. Ook met Elefante wil het niet meer lukken en tenslotte gooit ook Livgren de handdoek in de ring. Hij gaat, samen met bassist Dave Hope, verder bij A.D.
