biografische gegevens van major dundee band De Major Dundee Band is een Nederlandse country-groep uit 1977. De groep wordt opgericht door Dick van Altena en speelt country & western die geinspireerd is op de Amerikaanse country uit de jaren 50 en 60. In 1978 heeft de groep een hit met "The longer the distance", een nummer geschreven door Fred Limpens. Het succes van de groep is mede te danken aan Gerard de Vries die de groep veel airplay geeft. Naast Dick van Altena bestaat de groep in deze beginperiode uit gitarist, zanger Jan Gerrits, bassist, zanger Peter van Vlaanderen, gitarist, drummer, zanger Ton Verkooyen en gitarist, drummer, zanger Karel Momberg. Rond 1980 treffen we naast Dick van Altena en Jan Gerrits nieuwe gezichten: gitarist, bassist Cor de Vos, bassist Roy Schenkhuysen en drummer Geert van Oosteren. Beginjaren negentig veranderde de groep haar naam in Major Dundee.
