biografische gegevens van cure The Cure is een Engelse band die voortkomt uit de poptraditie van de jaren zestig. De groep ontwikkelt echter een volstrekt eigen stijl. Aanvankelijk bestaat de groep uit drie man: ROBERT SMITH: zang, gitaar MICHAEL DEMPSEY: bas LAURENCE TOLHURST: drums De geschiedenis van de groep wordt gekenmerkt door personeelswisselingen en het zoeken naar verfijning van de eigen stijl, die te omschrijven is als melancholiek en dromerig. Tot de groep behoren in de beginperiode oa: Simon Gallup en Matthieu Hartley, die later beiden in Fools Can Dance terecht zullen komen. Robert Smith speelt in die beginperiode ook in Siouxsie and the Banshees en in de gelegenheidsformatie The Glove. Na deze uitstapjes maakt The Cure in 1984 de psychedelische lp "The Top" De bezetting is dan: ROBERT SMITH: zang, gitaar PORL THOMPSON: gitaar, sax LAURENCE TOLHURST: keyboards PHIL TORNALLY: bas ANDY ANDERSON: drums Ook deze bezetting heeft geen lang leven: Gallup keert terug als gitarist en de nieuwe drummer heet Boris Williams. Ook Tolhurst verdwijnt.
