biografische gegevens van octopus Octopus was een Belgische popgroep die in 1973 werd opgericht. Enige leden van de groep hadden voorheen in The Bats, een popgroep uit Diest, gespeeld. Een engelsman Op de debuutsingle van de groep "Hey na na" uit 1973 horen we als gast Koen de Bruyne op piano en in het achtergrondkoor bevinden zich Zaki en Mike Verdrengh. Er wordt geprobeerd in Engeland door te breken, maar dat mislukt. Hoewel de groep vooral popsongs speelde, vormde "I'm so in love with you" de grootste hit. Dat was een Engelstalige bewerking van het liedje "Ik ben verliefd op jou" van Paul Severs. De smartlappensound sloeg aan en in Nederland kwan de groep onder hoede van Johnny Hoes. Van pop ging men de richting in van close-harmony en men speelde daarna nog voornamelijk covers. Steve Davies verliet de groep al in 1976. Hij keerde terug naar Engeland. In 1980 viel Octopus uit elkaar.
