biografische gegevens van gathering The Gathering uit Oss is een deathmetalband die in 1992 door een groep studenten wordt opgezet, en die binnen zeer korte tijd succes heeft. De groep onderscheidt zich dan ook van ander deathmetalbands door oa. de inzet van een zangeres en door het gebruik van allerlei instrumenten als bv. een synthesizer, fluit en triangel. BART SMITS: vocals RENE RUTTEN: guitar JELMER WIERSMA: guitar FRANK BOEIJEN: keyboards HUGO PRINSEN GEERLIGS: bass HANS RUTTEN: drums In 1993 is Smits vervangen door Niels Duffhues. De deathmetal is dan een flink stuk in de richting van de 'gewone' metal opgeschoven. Zo komt de deathgrunt niet meer in de muziek voor. In 1995 verschijnt "Mandylion". Het is vooral zangeres Anneke van Giersbergen die haar stempel op die plaat drukt. Anneke is de nieuwe zangeres. Ooit de trouwste fan van de groep, maar nu de vervanger van Niels Duffhues (die we in 2000 terugvinden in de groep Enos). De muziek van The Gathering is veel verzorgder geworden dan op de voorgangers. Ze komt meer in de buurt van de pop, maar dan wel pop met erg melancholieke nummers. In oktober 2003 vertrekt bassist en medeoprichter Hugo Prinsen Geerligs.
