biografische gegevens van playing rockets THE PLAYING ROCKETS is een Nederlandse gitaargroep uit Waalwijk die van 1961 tot 1965 bestond. De groep wordt opgezet door gitarist CEES VAN DER LEUR en zanger/gitarist JAN VAN HELVOIRT, twee musici die tot 1961 samen speelden in JOHNNY & THE ELECTRIC SENSATION BOYS. De groep is beïnvloed door het werk van Cliff Richard. JAN VAN HELVOIRT: zang, gitaar .. ex-Johnny & the electric sensation boys CEES VAN DER LEUR: gitaar .. ex-Johnny & the electric sensation boys AD VAN MIERLO: bas .. sinds 1964 / ex-the Flying Dynamites PETER VERHIEL: drums .. sinds de heroprichting in 1974 Na het opheffen van de groep in 1965 gaan Cees van der Leur en Ad van Mierlo naar de tilburgse groep THE BLACK DEVILS. Tussen 1974 en 1977 bestaan THE PLAYING ROCKETS opnieuw. Het is in deze periode dat de groep enige bekendheid krijgt. Een revival die in 1977 definitie uit elkaar valt. Jan van Helvoirt is vanaf 1977 aktief bij THE SHAKIN' ARROWS. In 1982 voegt ook Peter Verhiel zich bij deze band.
