biografische gegevens van soft machine SOFT MACHINE is en legendarische rockgroep, die in 1966 ontstaat. Van de originele line-up DAEVID ALLEN: gitaar KEVIN AYERS: bas MIKE RATLEDGE: keyboards ROBERT WYATT: drums is Allen op de eerste lp al niet meer te horen, en Kevin Ayers speelt maar 1 lp mee. In de beginperiode heeft Mike Ratledge het muzikale voortouw en de muziek neigt in de richting van jazzrock. In 1973 voegt Karl Jenkins zich bij de groep en neemt langszaamaan de muzikale leiding van Ratledge over. Met de komst van Allan Holdsworth betekent dat heavy gitaar muziek.
