biografische gegevens van patti smith Patti Smith wordt geboren in Chicago, groeit op in New Jersey en trekt op 21-jarige leeftijd naar New York, waar ze volledig zichzelf kan zijn. Patti Smith schrijft gedichten en ontdekt de rock & roll als ideaal middel om die gedichten aan de man te brengen. Vanaf het begin werk ze hierbij samen met ex-journalist Lenny Kaye, die haar op gitaar begeleidt. Later wordt hij de gitarist van de "Patti Smith Band": PATTI SMITH: zang LENNY KAYE: gitaar RICHARD SOHL: piano IVAN KRAL: bas JAY DEE DAUGHERTY: drums Het door John Cale geproduceerde debuutalbum toont een zeer intense Patti Smith. Patti trouwt in 1980 met ex-MC5 gitarist Fred Smith ze krijgt een kind van hem en is in het midden van de jaren tachtig enige tijd uit de running. In 1988 verschijnt een comeback-CD.
