biografische gegevens van gene pitney Gene Pitney is een Amerikaanse zanger uit de jaren zestig. Hij begint traditioneel, maar een aantal huilebalken onder zijn hits zal hem de bijnaam 'the prince of pain' verschaffen. Aaron Schroeder is de man die vastbesloten is van Gene een ster te maken. Schroeder zal als Gene's manager optreden én hij is de eigenaar van het platenlabel waarop Gene debuteert. De successen beginnen in 1961 met de single "I wanna love my life away". Behalve de zang, neemt hij op dit plaatje ook alle instrumenten voor zijn rekening. In de jaren 1961-1964 kent Gene een onafgebroken stroom hits in de USA. In 1963 vertrekt hij voor een promotietour naar Engeland en ook daar begint voor hem het succes.
