biografische gegevens van status quo STATUS QUO wordt in 1968 ineens wereldberoemd met de single "Pictures of Matchstick Men". De groep bestaat dan eigenlijk, onder andere namen, al vanaf 1962. De bezetting is: FRANCIS ROSSI: zang, gitaar RICHARD PARFITTl gitaar ROY LYNES: keyboards ALAN LANCASTER: bas JOHN COGHLAN: drums In deze bezetting maakt de groep in 1968 drie succesvolle singles en dan is het een beetje voorbij In 1970 vertrekt keyboardspeler Lynes en de groep orienteert zich in een ander muzikale richting: boogie en rock & roll in de bekende 12 maten. Er volgen nu een groot aantal succesvolle lp's en singles. De muziek bestaat uit een aantal simpele akkoorden die op hypnotiserende wijze worden gebracht. Het succes kent in tien jaar haast geen enkele onderbreking. Dan vertrekt drummer Goglan, en wordt vervangen door PETE KIRCHER (ex-SHANGHAI). Ook Andy Bown (ex-The Herd) wordt een lid van de groep als keyboard-speler. Ook in deze bezetting scoort men een aantal successen. John Coghlan vinden we later terug bij de groep Partners in Crime.
